2018 Fall General Meeting

GT-ASA Fall General Meeting

We’ll be holding our Fall 2018 General Meeting on Thursday, September 6th, from 11:00 am–12:00 pm in MRDC 3403. We’ll be discussing the activities of the ASA and our local chapter, as well as plans for the coming semester.

Scott Schoen Jr also be giving our first “Skills Seminar”, which will be informal presentations by students about tools and skills of potential interest to members of GT-ASA. This initial talk will be about the LaTeX document preparation system.

Spring Seminar and BBQ

GT-ASA’s spring semester-end seminar will be Friday, 11 May 2018. Dr. Amir Darabi, a recent Georgia Tech graduate and current post-doc on acoustic metamaterials.

Spring Seminar

We will be hosting our first seminar of 2018 next Wednesday, 28 March 2018. Dr. Alessio Medda from GTRI will be presenting on his work on the use of wavelets in aeoracoustics.

New officer election + winter research symposium

We will hold our new officer election and winter research symposium on Wednesday, December 13th, at 5pm in Love 210.

All current members of GT ASA will vote for the 2018 President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Representative to National.

Afterwards, we will hold our winter research symposium, an informal event where any current member of GT ASA can showcase the acoustics/vibrations research he/she has completed this past year. We will project PowerPoint slides and have them run in the background for discussion. All are welcome to attend this free event. As always, free food will be served! (Vegetarian options available).

Fall seminar

We will be hosting our fall seminar next Thursday, November 9th.

The speaker will be Dr. Costas D. Arvanitis, joint professor in mechanical and biomedical engineering here at Georgia Tech. The title of his talk is “Therapeutic Ultrasound”.

Outreach Event at St. Philip AME Church

GT ASA will be participating in the annual STEMS Career Fair on Saturday, August 26th, from 8:30 – noon. It will be held at St. Philip AME Church in Atlanta. We will be giving demonstrations of basic acoustics concepts to middle and high school students who are predominantly African American. Officers will be providing transportation. No prior experience with ASA outreach events is needed and only an understanding of acoustics fundamentals is necessary. Hope to see you there!

Spring BBQ (again) postponed to Thursday, May 25th

Make-Up Spring BBQ

By popular vote, the make-up Spring BBQ will be held on Monday, May 22, from 6-7pm. 
 
We will be grilling-out hamburgers, hot dogs, and vegetarian versions of the two behind the Love Building on the concrete area across from the MRDC.
This will be a social event–no guest speaker. It will be an open environment to network and discuss any ideas you may have for ASA for the summer semester.
